Ostello Estivo
Somewhere in a mountainous area we find a big concrete structure; a former summer hostel. In the summer this hostel was open for the children of employees of a large company. The concrete building was designed for a location near the sea, but was built in a mountain region instead. The construction cost was 1-2 billion Italian lire.
It was opened in the 70’s and consisted of 2 buildings; one big holiday centre for the kids and a small hotel for their parents to stay in. The children were entertained and stayed in dorm-like rooms. A smaller wing housed the administration and an infirmary, as well as some rooms for the employees to stay. The holiday centre provided work for a couple hundred employees during the three months a year it was operating.
Around the 2000’s it was closed and despite several attempts to sell the property, no potential buyers were found. The roof started leaking, plaster started crumbling from the ceiling and the first ferns are now growing from the floors. Some parts have turned comletely green, making this a popular place among urban explorers.
