Already in the 16th century, Spa was know for its naturally iron bearing and carbonated water. The first public bathhouse was opened in 1828 and in 1841 the second opened it’s doors. In 1862, architect Léon Suys was asked to build the third bathhouse for the city of Spa, Belgium. The cost price for this project was 1,5 million Belgian francs and construction finished in 1868.

At the start of the 21st century, a modern new bathhouse opened. In 2003 this monumental building had to close its doors and got abandoned.

The former entrance hall was beautifully decorated with columns, fresco’s and detailed artworks on the ceiling. A narrow stairway led to the old attic, which also had its charm with old wooden floors and old wallpaper.

A large-scale renovation started in 2019 and is still ongoing.
