Power Plant Luce Verde

Big industrial sites need a lot of energy. Sometimes it’s worth investing in an own power plant. In the 1940’s construction of this power plant started. Five turbines supplied power to the adjacent factory and in the 50’s one more turbine was added. 10 years later the big hall was expanded on the north side with space for one turbine and on the southern end with space for 2 more turbines.

Over the years, there have been 10 turbines from brands like MAN, Ansaldo and Franco Tosi. Two turbines have been removed, though one is only partially dismantled. It’s not clear if this happened before or after the abandonment of the plant. In the 70’s they started construction of a new power plant, but they kept on using this plant as well.

After the construction of yet another power station around the 2000’s, this one became abandoned. Fortunately, 8 turbines are still in the halls and the boiler house is still quite intact. Although the plant is abandoned for a couple decades, some power is still running through parts of the plant.

I love industrial power plants at a scale like this; large turbines, big halls, old industrial architecture and good decay made this place one of my favorite locations of all time.
