Lost City
This isn’t just an abandoned city, this actually was a military base. In 1938, Germany started construction of the base for the adjecent airfield.
The base consists of 12 big apartment blocks and many smaller buildings. A pilots school was also built at the base. During the peak almost 5000 soldiers were living here.
Eventually the base was occupied by the Red Army in 1945. They stationed several units of the Soviet Air Force here. Almost 50 years later -a couple of years after the reunification of Germany- the Soviets retreated and the base was handed back to the Germans.
Today, it has been abandoned for about 30 years. Nature has done her best to conquer the base and we even saw a family of raccoons explore the old pilots school.
*So we stayed here overnight. Won’t recommend. Would probably do it again though. 🙂
