With the government being afraid of the Soviets cutting off the power for their railways during the Cold War, they decided to build secret storage tunnels throughout the country. In case of a power cut off, this 100 metres long tunnel could house a train with mobile convertors and transformers to deliver power to the railways.
Off all tunnels I visited this year, this was the one furthest off civilization. It is located at the end of a road which only locals use who live next to it. As I didn’t want to get spotted I took a long detour, going through the forest with herds of wild boars running by, losing sense of direction, but luckily I somehow still ended up at the top of the tunnel.
I was unpleasantly surprised this tunnel had the most vandalism. Graffiti tags are just everywhere, but I had to share this one; the exterior with the rocks above and around the entrance is just so cool. You can really see this tunnel was built into the mountain in the middle of nowhere.
